LOWER MERION >> A proposed apartment building in the parking lot at the Bala Cynwyd Shopping Center that was rejected in February went back before the same Lower Merion board for approval May 9, and this time it was approved.
In February, the building and planning committee recommended denying a plan to build a six-story, 87-unit apartment building in the rear parking lot. A week later, the board of commissioners voted to have it sent back to the building and planning committee for reconsideration.
That reconsideration came back to the building and planning committee at its May 9 meeting.
Besides the 87-unit apartment building, the project also comes with 131 parking spaces. The location for the building is in the rear lot near St. Asaph’s Road. The project also includes the addition of an 8-foot multi-use path along St. Asaph’s Road and to the rear of St. Asaph’s Church.
Some of the parking would be located under the building with additional parking to the side approximately to the rear of where the Acme market is located. Access to the site by car would come from Conshohocken State Road.
George Broseman, attorney for Federal Realty, the owner of the shopping center, said, of the 87 units, 14 will be studio units with small bedrooms, 44 one-bedroom units and 29 of the units would have two bedrooms.
