Update: 4/5/2024

The current continuous (24/7) City Ave Northbound (towards 76) outer lane restriction from Cardinal Ave to Lapsley Lane will continue into next week.

Starting Wednesday 04/10/24, lane restrictions will shift to a continuous (24/7) lane restriction consisting of a City Ave Northbound (towards 76) inner lane restriction, and a City Ave Southbound (towards Lancaster Ave) inner lane restriction.  There are no other planned restrictions (i.e. Northbound outer lane, Southbound outer lane, Cardinal Ave, pedestrian crossings, etc.).  This work is required of PennDOT to mitigate the traffic interruptions during the bridge erection operation.

The work that was scheduled for the week of 3/25 and the associated lane restriction has been rescheduled for next Monday 04/01 through Friday 04/05.  Due to the oncoming weather, a scheduling conflict yesterday with Lower Merion sewer cleaning, and a new risk of not completing the work before the holiday weekend travel, it was the right decision to delay this work until next week.

So starting Monday 04/01, a continuous (24/7) lane restriction will resume through Friday 04/05.  Lane restrictions will consist of a City Ave Northbound (towards 76) outer lane from Cardinal Ave to Lapsley Lane.  There are no other planned restrictions in place (i.e. inner Northbound lane, Southbound lanes, Cardinal Ave turning, pedestrian crossings, etc.).

As such, we are now looking at the week of April the 15th for roughly two to three weeks for bridge erection.  I will be in touch closer to the erection date with the associated lane restrictions for that operation with messaging to the broader SJU community, and local neighbors.

As a reminder, please reference the website that has been created for the project  https://www.sju.edu/underpass for the latest updates.

Motorists are advised to allow extra time when traveling. For the latest construction alerts and traffic information, please reference the website that has been created for the project https://www.sju.edu/underpass

In collaboration with PennDOT, the City of Philadelphia, and Lower Merion Township we are planning for bridge erection starting the week of April the 8th for roughly two to three weeks. I will be in touch closer to the erection date with the associated lane restrictions for that operation.
