Event Raises Funds for the Volunteer Emergency Responders Scholarship Program
August 15, 2022. Wayne, PA- The Main Line Chamber Foundation is hosting its 25th annual GIANT Main Line 5K Run/Walk on Sunday, Sept. 11, 2022.
The event, which features a 5K run and 1.5-mile walk, is the primary fundraiser for The Main Line Emergency Responders Scholarship Program. In 2021, the event attracted 400 participants and raised a major part of the nearly $71,000 in scholarships awarded to local volunteer firefighters and emergency medical technicians at a Hometown Heroes ceremony at the Lower Merion Township Building in June.
For the 10th consecutive year, GIANT will be the presenting sponsor of the event.
The Foundation, which is largely run by volunteers who work with local businesses, is seeking to finalize corporate sponsorships for the event. Sponsors are motivated to give back to the local community while promoting businesses in front of hundreds of participants on the day of the race. Sponsors and companies throughout the region enter teams of runners in the Sunday morning race, which awards team trophies, special medals for age group winners and cash prizes for the fastest three male and female finishers. Many companies participate as part of their wellness programs.
“Sponsoring is a great way to network and advertise for your company while supporting local firefighters and EMTs,” said Eric McCracken, chairman of The Main Line Run Committee, member of The Main Line Chamber Foundation Board of Directors and Vice President, Controller at the Haverford Trust Company. “Each year, sponsors and participants have a great time supporting people who volunteer to help keep our communities safe.”
Registration for both individuals and teams has started for the 2022 event. Registration is $30 until Sept. 11, and $40 on Sept. 11 for those who register on-site at the event starting at 7:00 a.m. The 5K race will start at 8:30 a.m. in front of the Chamber office at 175 Strafford Avenue in Wayne, and the 1.5K Walk will start at approximately 8:30 a.m. Volunteers are also being sought to help keep the racecourse safe. Pre-registrants have the option to collect their race bibs and t-shirts at GIANT on 550 E. Lancaster Avenue in St. David’s, between 10am and 2pm on Sept. 10.
