Flowers for the Philly Sound
March 26, 2023 @ 4:00 pm – 6:00 pm
Join us to celebrate Philadelphia’s unique soul music scene of the 1970s—the Philadelphia Sound. Influencers of the Philly Sound included musicians Billy Paul, Teddy Pendergrass, and disk jockey Hy Lit, all of whom are permanent residents of Laurel Hill West. Hear a panel of community historians and local musicians discuss what made the Philly Sound special and how it shaped a legacy of artists and genres to come, from funk to neo soul and R+B, then enjoy a cocktail hour with music inspired by the conversation.
