PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) — 6abc was proud to host its annual Black History Month Community Awards Dinner on Wednesday night.
6abc WPVI-TV Philadelphia honored six leaders who embody Advocacy, Elevation, and Equity as part of their Black History Celebration:
Sulaiman Rahman, CEO of Diverse Force
Regina A. Hairston, President & CEO of the African-American Chamber of Commerce of PA, NJ & DE
Ken Scott, President & CEO of Beech Companies
Sereena Quick, the first Black woman owner of a Chick-fil-A franchise in the Philadelphia region
Jim Burnett, Executive Director of Vested In
Della Clark, President & CEO of The Enterprise Center
The honorees all shared parts of their journeys, from Ken’s time with the Obama administration to Sulaiman’s childhood that he dubbed “a tale of two cities” thanks to his personal brushes with Philadelphia’s wealth inequality. Jim asked everyone to take time to invest in high schoolers who are hungry for exposure to work opportunities, Sereena recalled a 3 hour conversation with a ChiCk-fil-A franchisee that changed her whole life, and Regina repeated her mantra that “When Black businesses do well, the entire economy does well.”
Philadelphia Mayor Cherelle Parker delivered remarks at the event, recognizing six individuals who are making an impact in Philadelphia’s Black and brown communities.
Those who were recognized are attempting to create business opportunities and greater access for minority businesses in the region.
6abc President and General Manager Bernie Prazenica, Vice President of Community Engagement Niki Hawkins, along with several other 6abc colleagues showed their support.
