The current contract between SEPTA and the Transport Workers Union (TWU) Local 234 – which represents over 4,700 SEPTA City Transit Division operators, mechanics, trade specialists, and maintenance custodians – expires at 11:59 on Sunday, October 31, 2021. While a strike authorization vote was taken on Sunday, October 24, it is important to note that an authorization vote does not necessarily mean there will be a work stoppage when the contract expires. Negotiations are ongoing, with the goal of reaching a fair agreement that will avert disruption to City Transit Division Buses and Trolleys and the Market-Frankford and Broad Street Lines. SEPTA understands how important our service is to our customers – your constituents, members, employees, students, and stakeholders. In preparation for a possible service interruption that could begin on Monday, November 1, SEPTA has developed a Service Interruption Plan – https://www.septa.org/service/interruption/2021-guide.html – to help customers plan for their travel needs.
