Lower Merion commissioners, meeting as the Building and Planning Committee Nov. 11, voted to recommend approval of two land development plans that will bring new residential units to the township.

In the unanimous votes by commissioners present, tentative sketch plans for a project to add an apartment building to an older office building property in the City Avenue district moved forward. The votes are expected to be made formal at the board’s regular monthly meeting Nov. 18.

This sketch plan approval regarded redevelopment of Keystone Property Group’s office parcel at 150 Monument Road in Bala Cynwyd. Under Lower Merion’s comprehensive rezoning of the City Avenue commercial corridor in 2012, the property is part of the new City Avenue Regional Center District, whose goals include mixed-use development to promote a 24/7 live-work-play environment.

Following other City Avenue rezoning goals, a multipurpose trail along Monument Road and another trail accessing a recreation area to the north of the buildings will be among amenities on the property. The Monument Road parcel will also be linked to the adjoining parcel at 335 Righters Ferry Road, where plans for a four-story apartment building have been approved.
