DESCRIPTION:Exploring Cynwyd Trails East to City Avenue Through the City Avenue District and Back \n\n\n\nSaturday\, January 29 at 10 a.m. \n\n\n\nJoin us for a unique winter walk that will take us to parts of the trail connecting with City Avenue that hasn’t been built yet.  Hear the plans for walkable trails from the Cynwyd Heritage Trail to City Avenue\, through City Avenue\, and back to the Cynwyd Heritage Trail via West Laurel Hill Cemetery.   Our leaders will be Chris Leswing\, Lower Merion Township Director of Building and Planning\, along with Bonnie Perry from BTA.  We’ll walk through new residential and commercial developments along the way and learn about pedestrian improvements and open space amenities being realized through new development in the City Avenue District.

This is a great opportunity for constituents to learn the responsibilities of this state-related agency and to provide feedback to the PPA. \n\n\n\nThe Share Food Program is headquartered in the 194th District and\, in addition to hearing about the important work of this organization\, Share will also let friends and neighbors know how constituents can access senior food boxes. \n\n\n\nThis will be my 20th Town Hall meeting held virtually since the pandemic began. DESCRIPTION:In the final year of the Civil War\, hundreds of volunteer soldiers hailing from eastern and central Pennsylvania were funneled to a special Union Army post in Lower Merion. For many\, it was their last stop before heading back to civilian life. These men had survived years of bloody combat. Some had been wounded and hospitalized. Many had endured long captivity in the south. Thus separated from their regiments\, they straggled north\, sometimes alone and often in dire health. \n\n\n\nBack From Battle: The Forgotten Story of Pennsylvania’s Camp Discharge and the Weary Civil War Soldiers It Served (Sunbury Press\, 2021) tells the forgotten story of this Army post\, named Camp Discharge\, and its role in the rapid demobilizing of Union forces as the war was ending. Co-authors Jim Remsen and Brad Upp draw from military and medical records\, pension files\, diaries\, memoirs\, newspapers and more to present a rich account of Camp Discharge and the men it housed and helped. \n\n\n\nJoin the authors on November 18th at 6:30 PM for a free presentation and book signing in the Conservatory at West Laurel Hill Cemetery (215 Belmont Avenue\, Bala Cynwyd\, PA 19004).
